Ierland verkijkt zijn kans op de Grand Slam, maar is nog volop in de race om de zogenaamde Triple Crown te pakken. Tussen de landen Schotland, Engeland, Ierland en Wales wordt om deze trofee gestreden. Het blijven rare eilandbewoners! Voor de vijfde keer in zevens edities Six Nations op rij, hebben de Ieren deze trofee bemachtigd. De enige die nog tussen hen en de TC staat is Schotland in de vijfde en tevens laatste speelronde van het toernooi. Een knappe zege van Ierland op Wales laat zien dat ze meestrijden om prijzen! Check filmpje en let op scrumhalf (Man of the Match) Tomas O’Leary en de gele kaart van Lee Byrne (Wales) die beide een bepalende rol speelden in deze wedstrijd. Eindstand: Ierland 27 x Wales 12

Engeland had het beduidend moeilijker met zijn taaie tegenstander Schotland. In een wedstrijd vol met fouten kwam het in een bloedstollende eindfase van de wedstrijd toch tot een gelijkspel (15-15). De Schotten weten ondanks het goede spel geen Six-nations-wedstrijd te winnen. Coach Andy Robinson (Schotland), voormalige coach Engeland, ziet het niet somber in en zei: “The thing for us, and what I said to the team, is that we can stand toe-to-toe with anybody and play against anybody.” Een goede instelling die de Ieren in de volgende wedstrijd misschien wel kan overrompelen, wie weet…? Opmerkelijk was de blessure van Johnny W. (Engeland), hoofd blessure, die opnieuw een niet zo’n beste wedstrijd speelde. De Calcutta Cup blijft onbestreden en mag nog een jaartje in de kast blijven staan, wat eerder in 1989 ook al gebeurde.



Frankrijk stuift af op een Grand Slam. Italië was een maatje te klein voor het overrompelende geweld van de Fransen. Met een zege van 46-20 kijken we terug op een wedstrijd waarin de Fransen controleerden. De Italianen waren niet goed, miste vooral tackles en lieten zich duidelijk wegspelen. Een gele kaart van center Gonzalo Garcia (Italië) zorgde voor een impact in de verdediging, zodat Frankrijk er olijk vrolijk doorheen kon dansen. Nummer 8 Imanol Harinordoguy (Frankrijk) liet zich op beslissende momenten zien en is daarom een erg belangrijke speler.

    Thnx voor de update Roel, even wachten nog op de filmkes. Film kijken gister was ook een aardig succes te noemen. We waren uiteindelijk toch met zo’n 16-18 man/vrouw. Voor herhaling vatbaar lijkt me zo.

    BTW, ik had uiteraard al ver voor de six-nations gezegd dat de Fransen ongenaakbaar zijn en gewoon ff alles winnen.
