The Vets winnen eerste wedstrijd in de play-off.

De Valkenswaardse rugbyclub The Vets zijn na een tweede plaats in de competitie overgeleverd aan de play-offs. The Vets uit Valkenswaard ontmoetten afgelopen zondag 2de klasser Rush uit Schagen. 2de Klasser Rush probeert zich te handhaven en The Vets proberen te promoveren.

175De wedstrijd begon voor beide teams wat onrustig en stuntelig waardoor het even duurde voordat de teams hun aanvallen gecontroleerd op konden zetten. De rugbyers uit Valkenswaard waren hier het snelst mee en scoorden de eerste try. Hierdoor kreeg het zelfvertrouwen van the Vets een grote impuls waardoor ze de druk op Rush op konden voeren. De mannen uit Schagen probeerden in de eerste helft het heft in handen te nemen, maar konden geen vuist maken.

De rugbyers uit Valkenswaard konden het spel zodanig controleren dat ze zelden op hun eigen helft terecht kwamen. Het waren bij the Vets vooral de driekwarten die aanvallend druk konden zetten. De druk op Rush bleef deze helft toenemen en resulteerde in een ruststand van 21-0.

Na de rust werd er weer furieus gespeeld door beide teams en was het Rush dat als eerste een try kon drukken. The Vets probeerden uit alle macht hun overwicht uit de eerste helft door te zetten, maar waren niet bij machte om de voorwaartsen van Rush te ontregelen. Het sterk spelende pack van Rush konden in de tweede helft hun krachten bundelen en the Vets onder druk zetten. The Vets hadden het in deze helft erg moeilijk en probeerden de voorsprong niet uit handen te geven.

Rush uit Schagen rook hun kans en speelden een prima tweede helft waarin zij the Vets goed onder druk zetten. The Vets speelden in deze helft niet best en ongecontroleerd. Daar bovenop moesten the Vets in deze helft twintig minuten met een man minder spelen wat het spel niet ten goede kwam. Rush benutte hun kansen scoorden in totaal drie keer. Gelukkig voor the Vets mistten zij een conversie waardoor the Vets wonnen met 21-19. Komende zondag de return in Schagen om half drie.
